Japanese food ~4~ Yakisoba

 

Today's dinner was Yakisoba. It was 650 yen.

Yaki = baked

soba = noodles

 

I have not had Yakisoba for a long time. The last time was maybe more than 10 years ago.

Usually, you put some kinds of vegetables, such as cabbage, carrot, bean sprouts, onions and so on.

I have had similar chinese food abroad. But, the taste was totally different.

Can you see the red stuff on the left? It is called Beni- shouga

= a red collored ginger

If you eat Yakisoba in the Japanese restaurant, usually beni shouga is put on the yakisoba.

It tastes little bit sour.

 

We call inexpensive foods like Yakisoba ''B- kyu  gourmet''

It means B class gourmet. But I think Japanese don't always have negative image on

B-kyu gourmet.

(I think I will write about B-kyu gourmet in detail later.)

 

 

Japanese anime/manga ~1~ Ani song (Anime song)

  Japan is a anime-manga crazy country. There are thousands of Anime song.

We call anime song ''Ani song''. It is the shorten word of anime song.

So, if you have chance to talk with Japanese people, how about you say ''ani song''?

Maybe the Japanese would think you know Japanese culture well.

  Ani song is very popular when you play in Karaoke bar. I saw my friend, who was

about 25 old,  ani song in Karaoke bar. It is acceptable in Japanese culture.

People would respect for preference of each people. (but, people may be having a joke

on him.)

  I found anime company is holding an Ani song competition. I think her pronounciation

of Japanese song is perfect.( she was from Canada ) If you have time, take a look at

  The comentators are saying ''uta hime''.

  Uta hime         Uta = song  hime = princess

 We call woman professional singer ''uta hime''.

The price in Japan ~1~ a can coffee

 

On this page, I write about the price of various products in Japan. In Japan, people drink can coffee.(see above). It is a coffee in the can. I have not seen same stuff abroad.

There is 180 g of coffee in the can. The price is 120 yen.

=1.53 dollar

=1.19 euro

You can buy anywhere in Japan. You can buy this in the store, or  a vending machine. 

 

Today, I found the can coffee with toy, mini car. I bought it because I wanted

 to introduce on this blog.

Some Japanese people like to collect these kinds of stuff.

I guess even adults enjoy collecting these kinds of toys. 

Don't do this in Japan!! ~1~ speak loudly in the train.

 On this column, I give you advice in case you travel in Japan.
Mostly, Japanese people do not say directly about what they think in mind.
In our culture, Japanese avoid saying what they think in mind.
I think this habit confuses a lot of people from abroad.
 So, you must be hard to know what Japanese people really intend.
I will tell you what you should care if you come to Japan.
 
 Don't speak loudly in the train!!

  In Tokyo, I sometimes see a  group from other country is speaking loudly in the train.
If you come to Japan, you would notice people keep quiet in the train. I think keeping quiet
in the train is very important manner in Japan.
  If Japanese people find the foreign people who speak loudly in the train, they might be feeling
unconfortable. But they would not tell you not to speak loudly because they don't want to
say directly what they think in mind.
  In the train, I think our culture does not allow people to speak loudly on mobile phone.
If you are in the train, you hear announcement say, ''please your mobile phone should be manner mode''.

  The other day, I found one woman from European country are speaking loudly on the
mobile phone in the book store. I thought she standed out in the book store.

Japanese lifestyle ~2~ The season of autumn

 

 

Japan is famous for the distinct change of four season.

A lot of foreign people enjoy this change of season in Japan.

Now we Japanese are feeling that autumn has come.

The leaf of trees will change to orange gradually in the near future.

 

By the way, do you have any image about autumn in your culture?

After the hot summer, our life is getting more confortable.  

So, many kinds of activities happen in the school or in the local community,

such as a sports day and a festival.

 

In Japanese, we have some words about autumn.

 

The autumn is the season of sports.

The autumn is the season of cultures.

The autumn is the season of art.

The autumn is the season of  reading books.

The autumn is the season of  appetite.

 

In this season, Japanese people would remind ''Kuri (=the chestnut)'', ''Sannma (=a Pacific saury)'',

''Kaki (=a persimmon (see the photo above))''.

 

Japanese lifestyle ~1~ The cha-bashira in the green tea

   Today, I'm going to write about cha-bashira. You may know that Japanese people drink green tea.
Green tea is known as healthy  beverage. It has a lot of vitamin C in it.We say green tea prevent
a person from cathcing a cold. 
   Can you see a  stam of tea in the picture above? It is standing in the tea. We call it ''cha-bashira''.
Cha means tea. Bashira means a column.

  When you pour  the green tea, the stam of green tea stands in the green tea. But It is quite rare case.
Japanese people say you are ''so lucky'' if the stam of green tea stands in your green tea.
  I have never had such green tea in my life.(I am 33 years old.)
You may already know about green tea, but I guess you don't know about this. So I introduced this.

Japanese Kikubari ~2~ Toilet paper

 

''Kikubari'' means ''taking care of the other person'' in Japanese.

I don't know if what I am going to write from now is individual manner of Japanese culture. I just write this story because I have not seen the same thing in the other country. Your culture may have this kind of manner.

 

Do you see the toilet paper folded like above? In Japan, we sometimes see the toilet paper at the restaurant and hotel. Do you know why is that?

It is because the person does like this so the people use the toilet paper easily. People use the toilet paper easily if the paper are folded more than without it. The users fold like this for the next person if you have time.(If you don't have time, you don't have to do this ^^;)

This is very small thing.  

I think this is individual manner of Japanese culture. Is it true? I am not sure.
