Japanese lifestyle ~45~ Easter

Hello, everyone. I heard from my friends that people enjoyed Easter in Europe.
31th in March was Easter in Christian, right?
I don't know well about what Easter is like...
In Japan, there are a lot of cultures that have been imported from European
cultures. But as for this Easter, we haven't heard of this culture.
There are some events related to Christianity such as Christmas, Valentin.
I have seen Halloween's decorations on the streets recently.
(When I was kid, I did not see at all)
But, I don't hear people celebrate Easter at all. Maybe it is because
this event is connected to religious matter.
I learned that children play an egg hunting in the garden.
What is the main event in your country??? I don't have any images on Easter.
I can read the Wikipedia but I don't know how this event is close to your daily life.

Um, there are different "flavors" of Christianity and so it can be that some religious Holidays are celebrated on different dates. Easter for example, is one of those Holidays that not only change date each year (unlike Christmas that falls on the same day each year), but it also depends on which calendar is used. In Denmark, this year, Easter was March 31. In Bulgaria, though, Easter this year falls on May 5th -orthodox christian calendar is used there.

Traditions are also different. In Denamrk, the kids are expecting the Easter bunny ;) In Bulgaria, we color eggs, bake a special sweet bread, called "kozunak" ... and of course, Easter markes the end of 7 weeks of fasting :)

o_O um, this is a vast subject :)

Well, I think to most people in Finland Easter means 4 days off from work(from Friday to Monday). Only small shops are allowed to operate on Easter time(except Saturday is like "a regular Saturday"), so it's very quiet everywhere. People are visiting their families and eating some specific Easter foods like "Mämmi" which is a tradional Finnish Easter dessert.
On Easter Saturday I went to midnight service at the Orthodox church. The service started at midnight and lasted for two hours. It was actually first time that I visited Orthodox church and it was really beautiful!

Oh... I don't really celebrate Easter anymore... ^^; Just spend some time with my family. ^^ But it's true, children look for eggs and sometimes chocolate in the garden! (Of course the parents hide them before... haha) Our zoo in Munich has "egg hunt", for example. They hide eggs in the whole zoo and then children can search. It's great for them! (^_^)
I can remember I was very excited about Easter when I was a child... haha

It is said, the easter bunny hides the eggs! So most Easter decoration are rabbits ^^ (I still didn't understand, why a rabbit would bring eggs, though... lol)

To Shantal ForSD

Do people in Bulgaria use different
calendar? Today is April 4, isn't it
same date?
In Japan, we have the old calendar.
But it is not used to celebrate something nowadays.
The tradition seems to be more complicated than I though...

I have never seen Orthodox church.
It must be so old and beautiful.
Do you like Mämmi?
(Maybe I can't pronounce it)

To Saku

I just dropped Munich station
when I went to Germany two years ago.
I want to go to the zoo.
I have not been to a zoo in foreign
country.
(But I hesitate to go the zoo by myself.
^^;)

Um, for the daily life we are using the same calendar as everybody else in the world - it is also 4th of April in BG now .... of course, we have to take in account the time zone differences - Japan is like 7 hours ahead of Denmark and 6 hours ahead of BG, but still - the same date more or less.

The difference is in the religious calendar - in BG, we use the so called Eastern Orthodox liturgical calendar - it defines some fixed and some movable feasts. In that calendar, all movable Holidays are calculated after strict rules - all evolving around the most important Holiday - Easter (or Pascha)..... uh, religion is complicated thing.

Ooh why not go to the zoo alone? I think it can be great! Anyway, to go there with some people might be more fun... *haha*
If you are in Munich again, let me know, maybe we can visit the zoo then (^0^)/
