Japanese food ~31~ うなぎ an eel

  I haven't written about Japanese food recently.
I would like to introduce traditional Japanese food, うなぎu na gi.
うなぎ is an eel.
  Yes, we have a tradition of eating an eel.
 This is a grilled eel. If you eat eels made in Japan, it costs a lot.
This food is usually high price. If you eat a bowl of rice topped with grilled eel
at restaurant, you have to pay 2500 yen (794.79RUB,19.51EUR,25.50USD)at least.
 But I like うなぎ although you may look this food  grotesque. hahaha.
 We have the customs of eating unagi in summer in order to gain a lot of
energies.
  And there is a word "Unagi nobori", that means the price of goods, or stock markets
become higher quickly.

I think westerners make association between eel and snake - that might be a reason why they don't like thinking of eels as food :)
It is a fish, though and I am wondering why it is so expensive in Japan?

I guess it's hard for me to pronounce it.

Many Japanese people like this grilled eels. We don't associate with snakes.
People thinks this food is healthy and
delicious. And it is difficult to raise
eels.
That's why this food is expensive in
Japan.

This is just our tradition.
