Japanese saying ~5~かka

Today, I write about a saying that begins か(ka)
かわいい こ には たびを させよ kawaii ko niwa tabi wo saseyo

Meaning:
If your son or daughter is so cute, you should let him or her out.
Do not indulge him or her too much.

kawaii means "cute"
ko means son or daughter
tabi means travel
wo saseyo means "you should do---"

I think this saying also has the meaning "it is good thing to let young people
experience hardships when they are young."
I think many Japanese people believe that it is important to experience
hardship when people are young. Because that experience would be useful
for whole of your life.
Do you have saying in your culture?
