Japanese lifestyle ~27~ Taibatsu part 2

As I wrote on this blog, taibatsu( corporal punishment) is hot topic now in Japan.
Today's newspaper introduces Stan Hansen's interview. Stan Hansen is the American
wrestler who played an active part as wrestler in Japan.
 He gives the comment:
In Japan, people accept corporal punishment more than people in USA.
And he tells us two reasons.
The coach at high school or university had hard training when they were players.
Their coach did "taibatsu". And they misunderstand it is the true way of training.
The other reason is that people don't have enough compassion for making mistake or defeat.
Sports player focus on endurance.
And he mention that players are required to be loyal to their coach even if the training
is not appropriate. Furthermore, he says those spirit come from Samurai spirit.

 I agree his comment.

I guess one of the reason why the coaches still do taibatsu is from cultural reason.
It is true that Japanese education focus on "endurance". Adults believe it is important
for children to stand something. Actually, this education may play important role
to keep Japanese society safely. As you may know, when we had big earth quake in Fukushima,
there were not a lot of plunders or riots in Fukushima. I heard that if same scale of earthquake
happened in the other country, the society would be disordered.
But it is clear that taibatsu is nonsense.

Japanese commentator on TV would say "We should stop taibatsu!! We should regulate taibatsu!!
We should learn western countries!!".
When we say the opinion, it is effective to say "We should learn western countries. Japan
are behind western countries". Because Japanese knowledgeable people are so afraid of
behind western countries.

Anyway, we face the new phase to change training way in the field of sports.

Thanks for reading!

the "hot topic" that most concerns me about Japan is...when will the first sakura appear in the Osaka area.
i will let those people who are concerned with politics comment on politics. there is good and bad in every country every single day. that is my comment. sometimes it is not so easy to see the good but...there are good kind generous people in every country. i will always want to return to Japan because it is...Japan. i do not want "my Japan" to become too westernized. i have seen many many things all over Japan from Naha to Sapporo from Shimonoseki to Kujukuri from Tottori to Tokushima from Kagoshima to Kesennuma...i prefer to see the beauty, the old, the new, 普通のと不思議なこと, all the 日本のことthat makes Japan...Japanとおもいます。

It is also true that many Japanese people are trying to keep traditional cultures.
I guess some of them notice
it is important to do that.
As Japanese, I am so glad to hear what you said.
Hopefully I would like to introduce something that can't
be seen from outside Japan on this blog.
